A 5.9 earthquake rattled the border between California & Nevada on the afternoon of Thursday, July 8th at 4:00. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, people reported feeling a jolt hundreds of miles away, as far as the Bay Area. The earthquake reported just south of Lake Tahoe, triggered a series of aftershocks with at least one with a 4.6 magnitude, the USGS said.
Thankfully, the earthquake was in a somewhat unpopulated area and there was little or no damage. Some highways were closed due to risk of rockslide.
